Regional Director, Dallas National Enterprise Center

Black owned businesses have given stability and opportunity to people
of color. As an extension of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the
Dallas National Enterprise Center and other organizations like it have
a commitment towards continuing the legacy of successful black
businesses throughout the community.

As regional director, John F. Iglehart assists in increasing the number
of minority businesses and helps existing businesses expand by
increasing their gross sales. “Back in 1983, the Small Business
Administration — as we are called — was mandated by President Reagan to
salute minority businesses on an annual basis and that’s what this is
all about. It’s part of our job to salute the contributions that
minority businesses have made across the country,” says Iglehart.

A Texas native who was appointed regional director in 1994, Iglehart
has long been an advocate for empowering minority business leaders and
their companies. As both a mentor and voice of reason for black
business leaders, Iglehart firmly believes that a strong business
begins with proper planning, adequate financing and key staffing with
the right networks.

“America was built on business. America was built on commerce. We as
people of color have to follow that lead. It’s all about business; it’s
all about commerce. It’s about us employing us as we move forward,”
explains Iglehart. – jason thompson
