Assistant Marketing Director, WBLS
WBLS has been a media staple in
the New York community for 30 years. The radio station became one of
the first mediums to play urban music in the Big Apple and enjoyed
success as the city’s No. 1 FM station for several years. WBLS reigns
as the flagship station for “The Steve Harvey Show” and “The Wendy
Williams Experience,” and continues to dominate as a force in urban
radio.
Koren Vaughn, assistant marketing director for WBLS,
works to maintain the station’s status as a vital part of the
community. “We have a lot of events that cater to our listeners,”
Vaughn says. “At all of our events, we … make sure that the event is
put together correctly and that the community has a good time.”
WBLS recently hosted the Circle of Sister’s Expo and will sponsor
several events to celebrate the station’s entry into gospel. On Oct.
27, WBLS held the “Afternoon of Praise Cruise” with Pastor Hezekiah
Walker. “We party with a purpose,” Vaughn says. “With most of our
events, the proceeds go to charity.”
Vaughn, who worked in several professions before landing in radio, says
she’s delighted to work in the industry and believes others can enjoy
the same success and satisfaction by pursuing the profession.
“I was a sponge when I started,” she recalls. “I had my goals set. You
have to be willing to learn and get a mentor. The mentor will help
guide you through it.” – amir shaw
