During the ‘60s and ‘70s, the San Francisco area was the unfortunate scene of what seemed to be random murders committed by a man known only as the Zodiac Killer. As he continuously taunted police and used the media, the Zodiac Killer became a “celebrated” serial killer. David Fincher’s (Se7en, Fight Club) retelling of these events is both chilling and gripping. Excellent performances by Robert Downey Jr., who plays Paul Avery, a self-destructive star reporter, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Graysmith, a cartoonist obsessed with the case, Zodiac draws you into the story with its “you-are-there” scripting. This two-disc director’s cut adds some cool extras in the form of new commentaries and a full length documentary of the actual Zodiac investigation, including interviews with original investigators and survivors –dark abyss
