Bridges –  Bridges are great for walking or running because they are usually rather lengthy and provide a clear starting and ending point for the exercise. The areas around bridges tend to be scenic and inspiring as well. Example: Brooklyn Bridge, New York City

Lake or Reservoir – Lakes are great for running and walking because of their aesthetic nature. Usually there is a designated trail or path near for your running and wlaking regimen. Example: Lake Michigan, Chicago

Mountain or Canyon – Walking on a mountain is usually called hiking. Whichever term you prefer, the end result is a substantial amount of strenuous exercise. The incline of a mountain delivers resistance to the walker-hiker, thus intensifying their workout. Example: Stone Mountain, Ga.

Beach – Walking or running on the beach is hardly a novel concept. However, the natural beauty of the beach attracts millions every year. Beaches are advantageous because the sand on the beach also provides resistance to the walker-runner. Example: Venice Beach, Los Angeles

Broadway – A good ol’ stroll down Broadway is the easiest away to get exercise. For those who live in an urban environment, where there is no bridge or lake to walk, your local major thoroughfare is an outstanding substitute. Example: Main Street, Houston
