Hill Harper Embraces His Friendship With President-elect Obama

While
“CSI: NY” actor and motivational author Hill Harper
dedicates most of his free time to educating and uplifting young women
through his latest literary release “Letters To A Young Sister:
DeFINE Your Destiny,” the talented thespian has also had a few
other “minor” issues on his agenda — namely assisting
a close friend in his bid to become the nation’s first African
American president. Harper’s long-standing relationship with
President-elect Obama is deeply rooted in academia and a shared sense
in the power of hope and community. Through Harper’s eyes, the
ascent of Obama is nothing short of spectacular, providing a ride
he’s thoroughly enjoyed every step of the way.

“I’ve
known President-elect Obama for over 20 years now, because we went to
Harvard Law School together,” Harper shares. “This historic
journey that he has embarked upon is something that I will always keep
with me. On the day of the election, we all got together for a game of
basketball, as we’ve been doing for years, and there was just a
this sense that it was finally about to get done. Then as the evening
came, to look out over Grant Park, and to see such a diverse array of
people all united by a shared belief that we are indeed the change that
we’ve been looking for … it was absolutely amazing.”

As
if a nation’s lofty expectations of Obama weren’t enough,
Harper also chose to address the expectations of an entire world, which
has heaped its hopes on the shoulders of his longtime friend as well.
“Some may believe that the world is looking for President-elect
Obama to change it alone,” Harper explains. “But that goes
directly against this entire movement. When the people of the world
look at him, what they should see is the greatness that is within
themselves. He inspires us all to be more accountable for our own part
in realizing the full promise of this nation.” –dewayne rogers
