Go Green: Asthma and African Americans

advertorial

Fumes from common, household cleaning products are a common
“triggers” for asthma attacks, or even developing asthma at
a later age. It is imperative that the African-American community is
aware of how fumes can affect our health since:

  • Asthma prevalence rates are almost 24 percent higher among blacks (94.2 per 1,000) than whites (76.1 per 1,000).
  • Blacks are 3.8 times more likely to be admitted to the hospital for
treatment for pediatric asthma and up to three times more likely to be
admitted to the hospital for adult asthma.
  • Non-Hispanic blacks were over three times more likely to die from asthma than non-Hispanic whites.
Go Green: Asthma and African Americans

By going “green” with your cleaning products, you are not
only helping to decrease landfill waste, but you are also protecting
yourself and your family. The good news is that the new ecofriendly Arm
& Hammer line of cleaners, Arm & Hammer Essentials, has a
solution that will not only save your lungs, but save your wallet, too.

Arm & Hammer Essentials Cleaners is a new line of household
cleaning products that combines powerful plant-based and other
biodegradable cleaners, which work as well as traditional cleaners, and
save consumers money. They are also housed in innovative,
environmentally sensible packaging, designed to reduce the amount of
plastic waste that ends up in landfills.

The formulas contain no harsh chemicals such as ammonia, chlorine or
strong acids that might be found in other household cleaners. The
cleaning products contain between 20 percent and 38 percent less
chemicals than competitive brands (via chemical analysis), yet deliver
an equal or better performance, and they are all 99 percent
biodegradable.

Also, unlike other “eco-sensible” cleaning products
currently on the market that are more expensive, Arm & Hammer
Essentials Cleaners Starter Kits are priced like traditional household
cleaners ($2.68-$2.99). By buying refills ($3.74-$3.99) instead of a
new trigger spray bottle each time they’re out of cleaning
solutions, consumers will realize cost savings of more than 25 percent
compared to buying traditional cleaners. The bottle is designed to be
used at least seven times before being recycled, which on average means
you can use the bottle for 2 1/2 years.
