VP, Community Relations and Minority Business Development, Walt Disney Company

MBA students and graduates stampeded the Walt Disney Company booth as if they were giving away money during the National Black MBA Association’s 30th annual conference in Washington, D.C. This is one intercontinental conglomerate that requires no introduction.

It is the epitome of occupational nirvana to procure a position at the world’s premier cultural influencer. Eugene Campbell says it was axiomatic for their company to grace what is arguably the most prestigious and dynamic African American convention in the country.

“Clearly, it is what we think is one of the strongest pipelines of talent, with thousands of attendees and thousands of students and professionals who have the very best credentials and the very best experience,” says Campbell.

“We feel that as part of our strategy to attract the best and brightest, you have to be here. It makes good business sense. At the same time we have a long-standing relationship with the National Black MBA Association. So they are partners of ours. We want to be here to support that relationship as well.”

Campbell says the attraction to MBA students and graduates also stems from the fact that people holding advanced degrees, on average exemplify greater degrees of global business perspectives and corporate diversity, the hallmarks of Walt Disney.

“We are storytellers. That’s the very nature of our business. So creativity, innovation, business savvy [and] attention to detail are all pretty much prerequisites for our business. And these professionals embody that, they bring that, based on their experiences at many of the other companies that are represented here. So our brand and our employment proposition . is attractive for them and attractive for us,” he says. –terry shropshire
