Times are hard. It’s a fact that hip-hop megastar Ludacris not only realizes but is actively trying to help change.

On November 22 and 23, The Ludacris Foundation along with help provided from its sponsors Sam’s Club, The Schwan Food Company and GM will distribute holiday food boxes to over 500 underserved families. This is the sixth year that the foundation will do the giveaway. The Thanksgiving turkey giveaway is a part of the Foundation’s LudaCares Initiative, which is dedicated to supporting kids and families in need during the holidays by providing food, toys and surprise visits to communities.

“I especially look forward to this time of year because it allows me directly touch the people we are trying to help,” Ludacris said in a statement.

On November 22, the foundation will distribute the food items to areas on the south side of Atlanta. The following day, the foundation will be on the north side of town. Both events are private, and the recipient families have been pre-selected by partnering community-based organizations.

“Our major focus is youth. At the holiday time we uplift youth by uplifting the family,” said Roberta Shields, president of The Ludacris Foundation. “We want to do something to help families have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. It’s a great feeling to sit with your loved ones and share the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us. If we add to their blessings in a small way, then we have accomplished our goal.”

In other Luda news, his much-anticipated sixth album, Theater of the Mind, is scheduled to hit stores a day early on November 24. The album features Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nas Young Jeezy and Chris Brown, among others. –j.h.
