The birth of a comedian: “I’ll tell you how I got into comedy. I wasn’t always funny. But I was at a party, and I met Jackie Mason, and he encouraged me to do stand-up comedy. So with his encouragement, and with the support of my husband, I took a class, and got up on stage. Can you believe that?”
Any first-time jitters? “There were no fears for me, because it was in a class setting, and all of my family and friends were there, so I was in a safe haven. I actually got booked for my first paid gig three weeks later.”

Biggest high on stage? “My biggest high on stage would have to be the heroin. I’m kidding. For me, the biggest high on stage would have to be a performance that I did for the Breast Cancer Foundation. To see people going through all types of madness due to this horrible disease, cancer — they were wearing their wigs, and going through chemotherapy — and to be able to make them laugh and forget about their drama, was the best feeling. Even though it was just for that hour, it was still a great high.”
