7 Great Ways to Reduce Stress

Merriam-Webster.com
defines stress as “a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that
causes bodily or mental tension.” Stress factors affect our inner
thoughts and feelings. While the condition cannot be measured or
treated by some miracle cure-all pill, stress contributes to heart
disease, mental illness, hair loss and even death. And we all
experience some degree of stress daily. Luckily, there are ways to
prepare the body for the inevitable. Here are a few to help you along
the way to peaceful bliss. –cw

Watch your diet.
Cutting back on sugar, carbohydrates, caffeine and alcohol can work
wonders for your temple. In our bodies, foods high in carbohydrates
turn into sugar. Large amounts of sugar deplete B-vitamins, which are
essential for a healthy nervous system.

Take
supplemental vitamins and minerals. Daily multi-vitamins, mineral
supplements and B-vitamin supplements strengthen your nervous system.
Mineral calcium has been known for calming nerves and toning up the
nervous system. Taking 3,000 mg of Vitamin C per day can help maintain
a healthy nervous system.

Talk
your problems out. Find a confidant, your partner or best friend to
discuss your issues. Sometimes all you need is someone to listen and
understand. Talking about your feelings may help the solution to the
problem come to light and release blocked emotions.

Stretch
your legs. Walking only 20 minutes each day can work wonders. Simple
exercises like dancing, swimming and aerobics change body chemistry,
calm the nervous system and reduce levels of stress.

Learn
breathing techniques. Simply clearing the mind of all clutter helps
avoid stress. Yoga, meditation and Tai Chi use deep breathing to relax
the body. Taking regular deep breaths is great for mental health.

Take
a long, hot bath for the ultimate experience in relaxation.
There’s nothing more soothing than soaking in a steamy tub full
of bubbles, lavender oil and scented soap.

Seek
healing herbs. Both Panax ginseng and Siberian ginseng have been shown
in numerous studies to restore balance, vigor and energy. Drink a hot
cup of chamomile herbal tea before bedtime to relax.
