Common and Solange help NFL star Terrell Owens raise $20,000

In
addition to celebrating his 35th birthday at the Gaylord Texan/Glass
Cactus in Dallas, veteran football player and philanthropist Terrell
Owens encouraged his celebrity friends and Dallas Cowboys teammates to
help him give-back during the holiday season. The ever-provocative NFL
star hosted the Second Annual Catch a Dream Foundation charity, which
featured a live and silent auction of valuable sports memorabilia.
During the event, Owens spoke with rolling out and gave five reasons
why he has taken on the responsibility to provide for the less
fortunate. –a.r.

The Families: “Because
I have always received support from my family. I wanted to raise money
to help 81 families in the Dallas area.”

The Recession:
“With the economy going bad, thousands of people have lost their
jobs and it’s become harder for them to take care of their
families. That was a major reason why we decided to do this event this
year.”

The Blessings:
“God has blessed me to play a game that I love for 13 years.
I’m thankful to have an opportunity to give back to those who
need help. To whom much is given, much is required.”

The Effort:
“We will adopt the 81 families for the 2009 year so that we can
help them with necessities such as clothes for their kids, help with
utility bills, computers, and college application fees.”

The Holidays:
“Our goal is to make the holidays less stressful. During the
holidays, we should always make it a priority to give to families in
need.”

The silent and live auction raised
over $20,000 for the Catch a Dream Foundation. Notable attendees of the
event included former NFL player and reality TV star Deion Sanders,
rapper Common, singer Solange Knowles, comedian Guy Torry, actress Jill
Marie Jones, Coach Wade Phillips and several players from the Dallas
Cowboys.
