Before
heading to Hawaii for the holidays, President-elect Barack Obama added
the final members of his cabinet. At the recent press conference in
Chicago, Obama announced Rep. Ray LaHood of Illinois for
transportations secretary, former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk for U.S. trade
representative, California Rep. Hilda Solis for labor secretary and
Karen Mills to lead the Small Business Administration.
“I
know we will be headed in the right direction again when we are
creating jobs, instead of losing them and when Americans are gaining
ground in terms of their incomes, instead of treading water or falling
behind,” Obama said. “The appointees…will play
an integral role in our efforts to turn our economy around. Daunting as
the challenges we are inheriting may be, I’m convinced that our team
and the American people are prepared to meet them.”
Though
confident in his team, Obama continues to acknowledge the long road
ahead. “It will take longer than any of us would like- years and
not months,” he said. “It will get worse before it
gets better. But it will get better – if we’re willing to act boldly
and swiftly. And that is what we will do when I am President of the
United States.”
