It’s 7 a.m., and the day is just beginning for Dawn Montgomery. As a full-time model and journalist, this day — like many others — is sure to be filled with a wide range of tasks aimed at elevating her burgeoning career to a higher stratosphere. But before she can delve into personal pursuits, Montgomery has another responsibility that trumps all others — that of single mother.
“My son knows that he comes first, and if he ever needs me, I will drop whatever I am doing to be there for him,” Montgomery explains, detailing the special bond she shares with her 3-year-old son, Sean. “I incorporate his well-being and his thoughts into my career choices no matter what, with no hesitation. I want to be an example of what persistence and determination can get you, and I pray every day that I am doing that.”
For Montgomery, not only is it important for Sean to be an integral part of a career in which she has been featured in magazines such as Jet, Upscale, and J’Adore, but also it is critically important for him to learn valuable life lessons through their journey together. “To be able to sit down with him and show him things that I have accomplished is truly astounding,” she shares. “If he sees that, then he will work hard and know that he can one day accomplish anything that he sets his mind to.” –dewayne rogers
