Later, Dwele electrified music fans, who imbibed on ice mochas, by performing several songs inside the mammoth Louisiana Superdome. “I think what McDonald’s is doing is the same as the Essence Festival,” Dwele said backstage. “The Essence [Music Festival] is bringing our people together to celebrate what we are and what we’re about. And in a way, McDonald’s is doing the same thing, you know, celebrating blacks 365 days of the year. And it’s a great thing that McDonald’s is doing a partnership with Essence. And I’m glad to be a part of it … to bring good music and festive times to this gathering.”
As Dwele has said on this national tour, the McCafe Experience is similar to the experience African American tastemakers get when they listen to Dwele’s music. “The McCafé Experience is smooth, it is unique, [and] it’s tasteful. It’s sort of like my music,” says Dwele, who wrote and produced McCafe songs for the television commercials with Conya Doss.
And after experiencing one of the McCafe line of beverages while listening to Dwele’s Sketches of a Man, fans will agree that Dwele and McCafe have a lot in common. – terry shropshire
