During the recession, what careers have the highest placement?
At Atlanta Technical College, we have a 98 percent placement in all of our programs. The careers that are recession-proof are the health fields, child care and education.
Are companies still hiring in the IT area?
IT is not as in demand as it was a few years ago. A lot of companies are cutting jobs and that’s one of the first places that they cut. But the field should pick up in a few years.
What advice do you give to individuals who are currently employed that want to add to their credentials?
A lot of students who have been to college are coming back to take marketing classes. One thing that people are doing is starting their own business. Another thing is medical coding and pharmacy technology. Many of the programs can be completed in six months.
How has Atlanta Tech been affected by the recession?
We have been fortunate. We have changed [the way we do] business and maintained the same level of staff. I want to thank the community for their support. We have the best staff in America. Any student who comes here will get a quality education.
