Six ways urban executives stay productive while stranded in the airport

alt1. The Laptop: has become as invaluable and ubiquitous with executives as the American Express. You don’t want to leave home without it. With it, you should have backups for other things. All of your numbers should be stored, as well as your entire calendar, contact list, birthday cards and other small items important to you. You must make sure that your laptop should be Wi-Fi friendly and has a port to play your favorite CDs. But even more important today is ability to participate in a conference call back at the office. This way, you won’t miss any important meetings.

2. The Smart Phone: is the only option for the executive, whether it is the Blackberry or iPhone or some other mobile phone. These tools are also enable you to function in a capacity where just in case your laptop does goes down and still communicate with staff.

3. Health Maintenance: your health and hygiene is a necessity to execute the rigors of the job to your maximum potential. You should always have vitals on your person when traveling, such as a portable toothbrush, a daily dosage of vitamins and a small for toiletries. You should also carry some healthy snacks. Dried nuts and fruits may not sound like much but they can tide you over.

4. Favorite reading and CDs: most all successful urban execs make motivational/inspirational material as much a part of their person as the clothes they wear. Be sure to keep postcards and short notes so you can write friends and families

5. A Dictaphone: you should have a Dictaphone to record and download moments to your laptop and email to your friends and assistants.

6. Introspection: make sure you leverage this swath of time to perform an internal inventory of your strengths and weakness and set a course toward your long and short-term goals. Whether through meditation and/or prayer, find a space where you can find tranquility that will allow mental and emotional growth.

Moreover, the other thing you should have as a tool that should help you is just a positive attitude. It’s important that your mood and happiness not be dictated by outside circumstances or elements. Whatever adverse situation arises, you should remain polite to others in the marketplace. We should lend a helping hand to those who are stranded and may be despondent by the experience.

As long as you have the tools to make your life as complete as possible, being a mobile executive is what life is all about. You can use this sense and see that you take these same skills sets – your email, the ability to respond to change – as you see yourself not only on this island while you are stranded.

Adapting these skills sets will ensure that your work station someday will be on real islands and enjoying Bermuda, the Bahamas or other places that you dream of. You can use these same skills to appear to be still at work.
