Repair Technician, Heel Quik
One of the first things a potential mate or colleague notices about you is your shoes. First impressions are lasting, so if you want to be remembered for being polished, invest in the maintenance of your shoes. Benjamin Miller, repair technician at Heel Quik at the Gallery at South DeKalb, believes “just because you can afford to buy a pair of $600–$700 shoes, doesn’t mean you can afford to tear them up.”
He shares this rule of thumb, “If you want to maintain those shoes that you bought last year, it’s important for you to come to the repair shop. It saves you money on your investment.”
Even before you kick those Salvatore Ferragamos, Stacy Adams, Manolo Blahniks and Nine Wests, check in with Miller. “It’s important for you to have protective soles added before you wear them. It gives them more life and adds more value,” advises the seasoned cobbler. “You can get up to a year’s wear out of a protective sole.”
Heel Quik offers a variety of services including shoe polishing and conditioning, stretching, boot shaft alterations, full and half soles, heel replacements and toe taps, as well as handbag repairs. The good-spirited Jamaica Queens, N.Y., native jokes, “If you can back a ‘57 Chevy up in here, we can fix the bumper on it, too.”
No matter if you’re trying to impress or simply looking for ways to save money during the recession, Heel Quik will fulfill your needs.
