Sunny Anderson
A New Food Attitude
Even in the darkest hovel, beloved chef Sunny Anderson has the
ability to illuminate any room with the warmth of her smile and her
unmatched zest for life. So when the culinary diva entered a New York
television sound stage in the wee morning hours and found a production
staff sluggishly trudging about and drinking coffee in an effort to
provide a jolt to their systems, Anderson provided all the caffeine the
crew needed.
“Good morning everyone,” she beamed, while
unleashing her trademark laugh. “It’s good to see you.” Instantly faces
begin to brighten up, and a new, more vibrant energy seemed to wash
over the set. Just call that the Sunny Anderson effect.
As
Anderson prepares for the second season of her popular cooking show
“Cooking For Real” on the Food Network, the vivacious former Army brat
is banking on that same effect continuing to propel her rapidly
emerging show. “I’m so excited about this new season,” she shares.
“Last season was my first time around the block, so it was a new
experience for me. But this season, I’m more comfortable, and I know
that it’s going to be great.”
Calling the show great
might be a gross understatement; Anderson’s loyal legion of followers
would suggest that the host is selling herself short. Anderson’s
uncanny ability to connect with so many fans is perhaps the most
rewarding part of the experience for her. “To have people come up to me
and say that they really enjoy what I do is exciting,” she says. “And
the thing that I keep hearing people say is they appreciate the way
that I simplify things and make cooking easy. That’s what’s important
to me. I don’t want people to be intimidated by the kitchen.”
Another
point that Anderson hopes her viewers avoid is the tendency to
overindulge. “A lot of attention is now being paid on people wanting to
eat healthier,” she explains. “And while I’m not the best one to be
asking about that, since I do like to eat what I want, I will say that
you have to watch the portions that you eat.”
Of course, I’m sure Anderson wouldn’t mind a bit of overindulgence when it comes to viewing her show. –dewayne rogers
