Weeds: Season Four

For those of you
who aren’t in the know, this Showtime series is one of the keenest,
most subversive half-hour of television viewing available. Mary-Louise
Parker plays Jenji Kohan’s version of criminal suburban mom, Nancy
Botwin. At this 13-episode season’s beginning, Nancy is evolving from a
marijuana dealer into a drug smuggler. The Latino criminal characters
she’s involved with are smart, humorous and fresh. What’s most
interesting about “Weeds” is that it remains reliably downbeat with
realistic representations, yet the black comedy is so sharp and cutting
that it’s consistently extremely entertaining. –forrest green III
