like all the classes. [I like] The hair battle and the fashion show,
but I’d rather see the hair battle.”

This is my first time coming. One of the things that I like about it is
all the products. There’s a lot to do – so much stuff, that I [don’t
have] enough to pay for it.”

Shemecca Grimsley, Fort Meade, Md.:
My first time. It’s for an assignment. I’m a law student at Georgetown
University. I’m writing a paper on these types of venues. Nothing in
particular, I’m just checking out everything, seeing what type of
things goes on at these types of venues. I like it. it’s like an eye
opener, because I see so many different hair styles, and so many
different type of clothing. So that’s the combination of expression.
That’s the big thing. The way people are expressing themselves.

come here every six months. I love most about it, there’s so many
opportunities that the Bronner Bros. offer. You can pursue modeling
through the many … it’s a lot of vendors, they all need models to push
their products, be it their hair line or hairstyles. And that helps you
to build your portfolio. I did that before, I modeled … I came here in
2005 and to model for Bronner Bros. But, I am modeling for Sally’s, the
new hair line relaxer that they had. It ended up being my dream being
fulfilled actually doing my first modeling job. And then you know, I’m
a hairstylist first and you have to come here. in Kansas …. Everybody
comes here and it’s a melting pot. Looking around and seeing people
from all over, and what’s hot in the nation, what are they wearing in
Ohio, what they are waring in Maryland or California or Georgia. The
Milky Way hair battles and actually, they are not here today. I
competed in it once, I dind’t win, still this … I did it.

just want to see the versatility of all the hair dressers here, and
just see what new products they have and to just support black
businesses. I heard they have a lot of black-owned support here and
sponsors. I’m just here to enjoy the festivities [and] the nice wild
hairstyles. And I saw one girl and she had rainbow hair and it was
feathered and it was so nice. So I’m just enjoying myself.
