How important is the Bonner Brothers Hair Show?
This is one of the biggest black events in the nation. We bring out
people from all areas of the world. It’s a multicultural event. It’s a
networking place for business activity.
We’re
going to get our hair done if we don’t do anything else. The styles at
Bonner Brothers are up to date and inspirational. People come here from
all over the world. It’s a special thing in our community.
How has the recession affected the beauty industry?
Like any industry, we are suffering. But the beauty industry isn’t
suffering as much. The recession creates a self-esteem boost. We are
receding in other areas, so we don’t want to recede in the way we view
beauty. We want to look special and feel special. It hasn’t taken the
biggest hit financially.
How can the black community as a whole survive the recession?
We have to be persistent. We have to share information. Sometime we
don’t share information. We learn as individuals instead of working as
a community. When we stop sharing, we stop growing. And you can’t be
impatient when it comes to making revenue. The revenue will come
secondary to your passion.
