In
celebration of Black History Month, Macy’s called on some of the
African American community’s brightest minds to enlighten and inspire
the community with their “Strive for Success” panel held on Feb. 20.

Tampa Bay running back Warrick Dunn; Lisa Price, Carol’s Daughter
founder; Shanti Das, EVP of marketing for Motown Records; and Darnell
Henderson, founder of H.I.M-stry, all shared their unique success
stories with attentive attendees.
“I really tried to expose my self to as many opportunities as
possible,” said Das, who got her start in the music industry at LaFace
Records.

The panel, which was hosted by Karen Greer of 11 Alive News, touched on
a number of subjects revolving around success, including the key to
making significant career strides, how to realistically stay motivated
and inspired, as well some business tactics for aspiring entrepreneurs.
“I had to build myself like a brand,” Das said of her rise to success.
“I networked as much as possible. Networking is key [to success].”
Price, who started Carol’s Daughter out of her kitchen, says that she
has always been careful to make sure that she grew her business
organically, and didn’t get ahead of herself. Meanwhile, Dunn, who
recently wrote the book, Running for My Life, talked about staying out
of trouble and constantly surrounding himself with positive people,
despite his sometimes-tumultuous childhood.

“I
would just advise people to go out and try to challenge themselves,”
Dunn told attendees. “You can’t really worry about what other people
have to say, you have to do things that are going to better your life.”
