It’s been nearly 20 years since the enchanting quartet En
Vogue first released those entrancing harmonies and bewitching beauty upon the
music world with “Hold On,” “Lies” and “Don’t Go.” According to the statuesque
singer-actress Cindy Herron, they are in the studios recording new material and
will embark upon a national tour in 2010. Herron, Terry Ellis and Dawn Robinson (Maxine Jones was not able to attend) took a quick break to share their beauty and
health tips and what they think about first lady Michelle Obama.

BEAUTY TIPS

Terry: I like to work out. I find that working out is
extremely important. So I do my cardio five times a week with weights. And I
try to eat properly. Sometimes I get a little sugar in. but I try to be
selective about that [laughs]. And prayer and meditation.

Dawn: I don’t exercise regularly. But I just got a bike so
I’m going to start doing that a lot more. And I think a healthy state of mind
is important. Your attitude is everything. So how you feel about your life in
general. When you’re happy, your body responds to that in kind. When your mind
is happy, your body respects it. Everything is good.

Cindy: [What] Terry said about exercising
and eating healthy, those things I do. For my skin, I try to drink I drink lots
of water. And I have a regimen that I do. I try to cleanse in the morning and
then at night and then I apply a moisturizer. It’s about a five-step process.
Cleansing, moisturizing, applying a serum, a toner, a cream .. and then minimal
makeup; it’s usually an eye-liner and a lip gloss. On most days, my hair is
usually pulled back in a classic ponytail. And just making sure that I keep my
hair clean and that I get to the salon at least every other week.

HAIR TIPS:

Terry: I have a relaxer in my hair and I find that a relaxer
really dries my hair out. So it’s important to me to deep condition my hair … because it replenishes moisture and it
doesn’t weigh my hair down. I really love it.

Dawn: I’m in and out of weaves all the time so that can be
damaging to the hair. I don’t have a relaxer, but it is pressed. And I use … Roots of Nature, for the deep scalp treatment that helps keep
the scalp healthy. So when I’m in between weaves — hello! — yeah, it is good.

Cindy: My hair is currently pressed. But I keep it natural a
lot because I work out. I use the Roots of Nature reconstructing deep
treatment. And that preps it. and if I want to get it prepped but also if it
has enough moisture in it and want to pull it back and wear it natural. And I
also like to use a little bit of the strengthening oil moisturizer. It’s really
great. It’s really protective of the hair when you’re in a humid climate. When
I’m pressed or when I’m on stage, it helps it not to convert back quickly. So
I’m definitely down with the Roots of Nature products.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MICHELLE
OBAMA?

Terry: I think Michelle Obama is absolutely amazing. And
very powerful. Her image is just very self-empowering for me as well.

Dawn: And really for women everywhere, really, not just
black women. Very strong.

Cindy: She’s a great role model. Great inspiration to all
women in America — for moms and professional women.

En Vogue, one of the best-selling women groups of all time,
is set to reach out and touch men’s sensibilities once again with their new album
and tour. Be on the look out.
