Author Winkk Talks About Her New Book, ‘Tour Secrets’

Winkk

Tour Secrets is the long-awaited
debut novel by Winkk. Winkk has worked in the entertainment industry
for over a decade and has danced professionally for the
hottest on-stage acts, including Ronald Isley a.k.a. “Mr. Biggs,” R. Kelly and Avant to name a few. Her semi-fictional tome is a cautionary tale of the music business — the good, the bad and the ugly. Coincidentally, Winkk says there are three sides to every story. This one is the dancer’s side. –tony binns

Why did you write the book?

I wrote Tour Secrets years
ago because I thought it would be an entertaining story to hear dancers
tell their side of what [happens] on tour [with] some of the hottest concerts. You’ve heard the stories of the video vixens and groupies, but you’ve
never heard the dancers tell their side.

Why didn’t you do a tell-all?

Writing a tell-all is not my style. I don’t want any negative energy surrounding me or anything I’m
a part of. This novel is not intended to hurt anyone, it’s only
for entertainment — like watching a good movie. I feel [that] by writing novels, I can be more creative and offer an entertaining
story that I hope people will enjoy.

You used your personal experience
as a basis, right?

The book is a fictional story inspired
by my life touring the world as a dancer. However, it is not written
about me or anyone I have worked with or met along the way. This
book is not [about] my personal experiences.

What is the most surprising part
of the book?

Some people are not what they pretend
to be. I think there are a lot of ups and downs in the book that
capture the entertainment business perfectly. The message
I hope people get from the book is don’t want a dream so badly that
you will do anything to succeed.  Don’t let money or fame drive
your dreams.
