McDonald’s and Nene Leakes Vow to Fight for Better Living

McDonald's and Nene Leakes Vow to Fight for Better Living

When Detroit’s fairer sex descended on the main branch of Detroit’s public library on Saturday, October 10 for professional guidance and resource sharing, not even the most savvy forecasters could have seen what was coming that afternoon. The women who attended the Detroit Female Success Factor 2009, sponsored by McDonald’s, were on a mission which was epic in nature.

These dauntless divas, showed up in force and came intensely focused and absolutely intent on getting what they needed to kick-start their businesses, shed paralyzing apprehensions and redefine success on their terms.

The result was an unprecedented outpouring of moving anecdotes — both personal and professional — coupled with unbridaled energy and support to buoy the ambitious participants on their quest for success.

McDonald’s event sponsors brought in the big guns with celebrity guest speaker Nene Leakes of the ultra-popular reality show “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” who brought the house down and the audience members to their feet with her candor and courage in discussing the importance of being an independent woman and the tragedy of domestic abuse. Eight expert panelists shared stories of personal aspirations and business accomplishments. What became apparent as the afternoon progressed was that a transformation was occurring in the auditorium which was nearly filled to capacity.

Women lined up at microphones during the Q&A session which preceded the seminars conclusion. Participants fervently shared their experiences and feelings about emotional issues like abuse, poverty and disease as they thanked speakers for their insights and fearlessly declared their intentions. “This is my dream …. we’ve got to keep each other sharp and I am so excited to see the Female Success factor come to fruition and be able to take it across the country to other women,” beamed Moroch &  Associates’ Marcia Paige who received a standing ovation for her work in organizing and moderating the event.

The McDonald’s franchise is noted for it’s support for small business development in the African American
community and has established one of the most successful minority franchisee programs in the business world. –roz edward
