Leave it to actor-comedian Faizon Love to go out with a bang.
While other entertainers quietly transition into other phases of
their career, the brazen funnyman decided to leave the acting world
behind with final a hilarious turn at the box office with a No. 1
hit, Couple’s Retreat. The film, which opened to the
tune of $34 million dollars, was a fitting swan song for Love, who
now has his sights set on achieving success behind the camera as a
director and producer. Rolling out caught up with Love to
congratulate him on the impressive first week showing, and to gain a
more comprehensive glimpse into the mind of the man who had a hand in
movies like Friday, The Player’s Club, and A Thin
Line Between Love and Hate.
Note to readers: This guy is crazy.
First of all, congratulations on the strong opening weekend.
What first attracted you to this role?
The reason that I took this role is because people want to laugh
in these hard times. When it came time to do the movie, the studio
executives said ‘How can we make people laugh with this movie? Who
can we call?’ Their answer was simple … Faizon Love.
For those that haven’t had a chance to go and see it yet,
what makes it so great?
Well, the movie is funny … because I’m in it. The movie looks
good … because I’m in it. Vince Vaughn is good. Jason Bateman is
good. Jon Favreau is awesome as always … but this movie is all
about doing things the Faizon way.
So what’s the Faizon way?
The Faizon way is making $200-million blockbuster movies …
having people choke on popcorn because they’re laughing so hard. …
Listen; when people hear the name Faizon, they go to the theaters.
It’s weird. I think they call it the Faizon Love effect. It used to
be the Eddie Murphy effect, but now it’s the Faizon Love effect.
So if the Faizon Love effect is so strong, then why leave
acting to focus on directing?
You ask too many questions … I’m kidding. You can’t get
stuck in one place. If you really want to make it in Hollywood, you
have to spread your wings. Faizon Love is ready to fly.
