“One of the things it takes [to be successful] is the selection of great talent,” DeCosta explains. “One of the things that I feel proudest of is the team that we’ve assembled here. We’ve got a really excellent collection of professionals who collaborate.” He adds with a knowing grin: “And the place is well managed.”
DeCosta had plenty of reason to smile recently. He was happy to announce the newest addition to Hartsfield Jackson Airport, a sky-train and facility designed to help travelers who come to the city gain access to car rentals in a more timely and efficient facility. The project was a huge undertaking, and the finished facility is quite impressive. DeCosta sees this as a huge coup for the airport and the entire southeast.
“This facility means a growth in our capacity as an airport to serve visitors to Atlanta,” shares DeCosta. “This is a stimulus project which will enhance our local economy and the economy of the southeast. It is a tremendous booster to the economy and allows the airport to have a capacity for growth through the year 2030. This consolidated facility will be a more efficient facility for the rental car companies and they’ll actually save money — and it’s an industry that does need some support given the recession. It’s coming along at the right time.”
Since assuming leadership of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in June 1998, DeCosta has had to balance everything that happens there, from customer service to security concerns. And he’s committed to continuing to help the busiest hub in the country run smoothly. “I communicate with people all day long [about] their issues, about our objectives and our priorities,” he says. “Making decisions for what it takes in order to get the airport in the right shape to service customers.”
