In response to the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, Walmart and the AMR Corp., the parent company of American Airlines and American Eagle, have partnered with the American Red Cross to support relief efforts.

Walmart operations around the world and the Walmart Foundation is making a $500,000 monetary donation to American Red Cross emergency relief efforts in Haiti and is sending pre-packaged food kits valued at $100,000 to Haiti. “At Walmart, helping communities is what we do every day around the world, especially in times of need,” said Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Walmart International. “Many of the markets where we operate in the Americas’ region are launching support campaigns, and we will continue to look for opportunities to provide much needed relief.”
“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by the devastation in Haiti, including the hundreds of thousands of Haitians who are our customers and our associates in the U.S. and abroad,” said Margaret McKenna, president of the Walmart Foundation. “We will continue to monitor the situation and look for additional ways that we can assist in the relief efforts.”

The Walmart Foundation has also launched a web page, www.walmartstores.com/haiti so customers and associates can make donations to nonprofits that are also supporting relief efforts in Haiti.
AMR Corp. (American Airlines and American Eagle)
American Airlines and American Eagle began sending aid into Haiti to provide relief for more than 100 Toussiant Louverture International Airport employees and for assistance at local hospitals in Port-au-Prince. Three American Eagle aircraft also arrived in Port-au-Prince on Wednesday, January 13, providing 30,000 pounds of supplies, including water, food, and other non-perishable goods. Three relief missions each day are also planned for Thursday and Friday as well.
Employees throughout American’s system have already set in motion efforts to aid earthquake victims by raising funds and providing assistance. “Help is urgently needed in Haiti. By partnering with the American Red Cross, we can ensure contributions will support timely efforts to provide much-needed assistance to the millions of people affected by the earthquake,” said Peter J. Dolara, American’s senior vice president – Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America. “We invite our customers to join us in supporting the American Red Cross, and it is with our deepest appreciation that we acknowledge their generosity with this opportunity to earn AAdvantage miles.”
