Floyd Mayweather Jr. has officially signed on to fight Shane Mosley on May 1 in a welterweight bout. He signed the contract on Wednesday.
Mayweather’s signature had been the holdout for the scheduled 12-round fight, which will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather had been looking around for someone to meet in the ring ever since the controversial fight with Manny Pacquiao collapsed after disagreements over drug testing. Mosley had also been searching for an opponent since Andre Berto pulled out of his scheduled Jan. 30 fight with him because of the earthquake in Haiti. So, boy meets boy at just the right juncture.
Mayweather is undefeated in 40 fights with 25 knockouts, while Mosley is 46-5. –gerald radford
