NBA All-Star Weekend Day 1 : Snow, Service and Stars

altNew Arrivals Greeted by Snow

The most discussed story on the first day of the NBA All-Star weekend was the chaos created by the snow. Small crowds at the NBA All-Star Jam Session were a clear sign of the effect that weather has had on festivities. Flights were delayed at airports across the country as snow dusted every state in the U.S. except Hawaii.

NBA Cares Day of Service

Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Kevin Durant were joined by volunteers who helped renovate Burnet Elementary School as a part of the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service. Anthony, Bosh and Durant helped to paint murals, clean the school’s library and hang posters inside of the school’s gymnasium.

Sophomores Play like Rookies

During the annual Rookie-Sophomore game, Tyreke Evans and DeJuan Blair did a great job of making the Sophomore squad appear to be the team with less experience. Evans walked away with the MVP Award for the rookie team and Blair finished with 22 points and 22 rebounds.

Parties Galor

Several parties began to heat up the cold streets of Dallas moments after the Rookie-Sophomore game. Mary J. Blige and Common performed in concert, Shaq hosted a comedy special with Mike Epps and Mo’Nique and ESPN The Magazine threw a shindig that featured Spike Lee, Nate Robinson and NBA All-Star Al Horford.
