An employer from Ontario, Canada, will be forced to pay over $25,000 for using several racial slurs while having an argument with one of his workers. Lynn Tompkins of Lynx Trucking Transportation harassed Cheryl Khan by calling her sons “Half-n—- babies” and telling her, “That’s what you get for sleeping with a n—–”
During her testimony, Khan suggested that Tompkins often insulted his minority employees by calling his East Indian and South Asian workers “stupid immigrants.” Other workers testified that Tompkins told his minority workers that they were lazy and lucky to have a job. Tompkins denied using the N-word, but tribunal adjudicator Eric Whist sided with Khan and awarded her $25,000 and $6,750 in lost wages because she was fired from her job.
Whist ruled that Tomkins created a “poisoned work environment” and that Khan was forced to experience “overt racial abuse on a repeated basis.” –amir shaw
