Should Pole Dancing Become an Olympic Sport?

Several supporters of pole dancing are vying for the seductive activity to become a test event at the 2012 Olympics in London and an official event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. KT Coates of Vertical Dance in England has taken the lead with the hopes of eventually making pole dancing a respected sport worldwide.
According to AP, Coates created a petition and has 4,000 signatures and will add 1,000 more before formally taking her plan to the International Olympic Committee. Others who support the idea believe that pole dancing has a legitimate chance of becoming an Olympic event since extreme sports such as skateboarding and snowboarding has been accepted.
While stripping and pole dancing was once taboo to mainstream society, it has now become more acceptable. More women visit strip clubs to party alongside men and pole dancing was even featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
