Evander Holyfield is one step closer to becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion again. On Saturday, Holyfield knocked out Frans Botha in the eighth round to capture the World Boxing Federation heavyweight championship.
Although many boxing enthusiasts pleaded for Holyfield, age 47, to retire after losing to Nikolay Valuev in December 2008, the Atlanta native continued to train and was eventually given the opportunity to challenge Botha for the WBF title.
The boxing match took place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and only 3,000 people were in attendance. Holyfield’s health could be in jeopardy as long as he continues fighting. He is currently looking forward to his next fight.
