Brandy Shares How She Used Music to Fight Depression

The wisdom gained from age and experience is priceless. Just ask Brandy Norwood. Having exploded on the scene as a 14-year-old pop star, the years following that big break have been filled with an assortment of high and lows for the now 31-year-old star. When she’s been on top, music was there to provide the moving soundtrack to her life. But music has also been there to comfort her through the hard times. So if there’s anything that she’s learned along the way, it’s that music is the one thing capable of curing any ill … even depression.

“I don’t know where I would be without music,” Norwood candidly shared during a recent photo shoot with rolling out. “Anyone that knows me knows that I have been through hell and back over the last few years. There were moments when I didn’t think that I could sink any lower. But music was always there to comfort me, to inspire me, and to encourage me. Even when I didn’t want to sing again, the music continued to be there, and continued to be the biggest part of my life.

“Music is truly life-changing, and I really don’t know where I would be without it. I’m sure that there are so many other people that feel the same way. I’ve been approached by fans that have told me that my music has stopped them from committing suicide. That left me speechless. It just goes to show the true power of music, and how it can be there for you when it feels like no one else is.” –dewayne rogers
