You know them. You love them. You wish you could either be with them or be like them. If the picture didn’t tip you off, I’m referring to the stunning models that appear in some of your favorite magazines and music videos. Now, while some of those stunning women believe that they have arrived simply by getting a spread in King Magazine, there are others who use their visual beauty as a means to an end. By taking the opportunities presented to them in this one field, the following three women have embraced the power of networking, and used it to propel them towards their real dreams. –dewayne rogers

“You never know what’s going to transpire [from] meeting someone. That’s why I always make sure I take the time to network … even when I don’t feel like it. Taking the time to meet new people can cause a chain reaction, where that one encounter can lead you to other encounters. I wouldn’t have been able to get half of the work that I get if it wasn’t for me staying determined, and getting out to meet people. People respect consistency, and if they constantly see you out there, giving your all and trying to pursue your dreams, they will remember you and want to work with you.”

“Networking is important as I pursue my career because opportunities are usually given to people that know each other. Having a great résumé is always nice, but it’s better to have standing business relationships with the decision makers. The only way that you can do that is by putting yourself out there and making sure that people know your face, and making sure that they also know that you work hard.”
Masika Kalysha: Aspiring Singer-Entertainer
“I’ve never underestimated how important it was to meet new people. Many times, when I’m on a modeling job, I notice that the other girls are too busy ‘being a star.’ That’s not me. I’m the exact opposite, as I’m focused on meeting the right people, and putting my best foot forward. It’s great to be looked at as attractive where people want to put you in their magazines and videos … but I have so many more goals outside of this. I understand that the only way I’m going to get there is by working hard and by meeting the right people.”
