Boris Kodjoe Wants Men to Look Like Him

After a successful career as a model, and an even more successful run as a heartthrob on the big screen, it’s safe to say that Boris Kodjoe has officially secured a place in the hearts and minds of women across the globe. But an enshrinement into the female gender’s “Fine Man Hall Of Fame” is not enough for Kodjoe. No, he wants to be considered a savvy businessman as well.

When the rolling out team bumped into Kodjoe in New Orleans during the Essence Music Festival, the only thing that he could talk about was how he wanted everyone to look like him. Not in the physical sense; Kodjoe wanted people to have an opportunity — no matter their economic background — to afford custom-made clothing, similar to the kind traditionally reserved for the wealthy. This desire to even the fashion playing field led Kodjoe to develop Alfa, his signature clothing line which stands for Affordable Luxury For All.

“My new clothing line is called Alfa, and I’m excited about what it will mean for the fashion marketplace,” Kodjoe explains. “My brother Patrick and I noticed that only rich people could afford custom-made clothing. So we found a way — with the help of a partnership in Thailand — to make affordable shirts and suits for men and women. Shirts are $30, and suits start at $130. The beautiful part about this is that it’s the same quality as any of your higher end suits. So all you have to do is go online and design your own shirt. Twenty days later, you’ve got it.”

Not a bad deal at all. And after personally observing the Alfa line, I can safely say that I agree with Kodjoe’s claims about the quality of his custom shirts. Not only did I not know they were only $30, but I also found myself wanting to place an order right there on the spot … the quality was that impressive. So maybe it is possible for us to look like Kodjoe. His Alfa clothing seems to make that a very real possibility. –dewayne rogers
