An upscale location and Crown Royal sponsorship can truly make any gathering the place to be. But when Polow da Don organizes an event for a good cause — in this case cancer — it makes the affair just that much more worth it.
Foundation F.O.C.U.S. teamed up with a few big money sponsors like BMI and Mercedes-Benz to host Cancers 4 A Cause, the most fashionable philanthropic event of the year. The poised and stunning Keri Hilson hosted and even Lloyd emerged from Young Money’s shadow to show that he’s still an independent artist. Bre from “America’s Next Top Model” danced with me to some of her favorite songs from Drake and Brandy, and Don Cannon reflected on the reason for our gathering. Cannon came with his mother to honor his late father, who died from cancer. House of Payne’s Lance Gross was also in the house.
Then there was that fabulous fashion show. There were so many wonderful fashion lines coming down the runway, that it’s clear there will be lots to look forward to in the upcoming season, especially from Kay Dane’s comfy couture and the ultra flirty and feminine pieces Nonja McKenzie has to offer.
On the performance front, it’s hard to forget Teedra Moses and her beachwear. I’m not really sure what she performed, but I know she’s too old and classy to allow Waka Flocka look better than her. While the crowd murmured various comments about her cellulite-filled thighs, Michelle Williams was a welcome pick-me-up addition to the evening when she walked the runway to “Lose My Breath.”
So while the red carpet was bustling, the styles were hot, and the performances were hit and miss, at least the American Cancer Society’s pockets are a little fuller and we can call the Foundation F.O.C.U.S. fundraiser a success. –archel bernard
