LGBT: Durand Robinson Murdered in Atlanta, Is it a Hate Crime?

altToday, Aug. 25, 2010, is a sad day in Atlanta for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community. We are all mourning the death of club promoter-owner Durand Robinson, who attended Morehouse College in the early 80’s. He was brutally gunned down during an alleged robbery attempt gone wrong. Initial reports stated that an argument ensued with an unknown gunman after Robinson was forced to get out of his car. During the the argument, he was shot in the chest at close range. He later died at the scene before the medical team arrived.

Lovingly referred to as “Daddy Durand,” he was a beacon of light for all partygoers, whether partying at Atlanta Live, My Sisters Room or Obsessions. Robinson brightened many nights for so many people. He welcomed you no matter who were you were or your background. He created and established Traxx Girls and Traxx Men. Working all over the U.S., he promoted and hosted parties at a plethora of venues.

A candle light vigil will be held at ER Lounge tonight in his honor. Atlanta Gay Pride is rapidly approaching and the LGBT community will miss his loving presence and off-the-wall comments. May he rest in peace.

The gunman has not been found and the case is currently under investigation.
