Whose House? Blake’s House! Round 3 for James Blake at U.S. Open

James Blake emphatically mouthed the words, “this is my house,” accompanied by a fist pump, as he served an ace to close out a grueling match with Canadian Peter Polansky. After a disappointing first set tie-break performance, Blake turned up the heat to win the next three sets, earning the Yonkers, N.Y., native a ticket to the U.S. Open’s third round.

Blake seems to be finding his form again after a very shaky summer that saw him drop to No. 84 in the world. Since the start of the Open, he’s been giving his rabid New York fans, aka “the J-Block,” a reason to cheer him on.

“I grew up around here … I feel like I have the fans support,” he said. “This tournament is what I get up for every day and practice … I still love this game, if I can play every match here, I never wanna stop playing … I love playing in front of people that appreciate that, you can’t beat playing in the U.S. Open.”

The final score of the 2:29 match was 7-6, 3-6, 2-6, 4-6.  It will be Blake’s sixth straight U.S. Open third-round appearance and he will play Novak DJokovic.
