Do you have more than one blog or a website?

Yes, my interior design business site is www.erikaward.com.

Why did you choose this subject?

As an Atlanta-based interior design consultant and fashion enthusiast, I am inspired by fashion and believe that we should look to our wardrobe for inspiration in styling our homes. I aim to inspire others during the decorating process and offer tips and advice on home décor.

Are your sites profitable?

My blog has helped me in gaining exposure to potential clients and allows them to get to know me before contacting me. My best advice to a new blogger is to be authentic. People buy products and services from those they trust.

How do readers respond to you? How many readers do you get to your blog per day?

Readers respond … [with] comments on the blog and … [by] e-mail. They are always appreciative of my advice and responsiveness to their questions and comments. I receive an estimated 1,500 readers a day.

How do you link to other bloggers and get the word out to others that you have a blog? Is connecting to other bloggers important?

Networking through social media, events and day-to-day contact with individuals helps me to spread the word about my blog. I’m a contributor to another online publication, which also drives traffic to my blog. Yes, connecting with other bloggers is important. Having a support system of like-minded people is invaluable, especially when you are first starting out.

What role does Twitter play in your life? Facebook? LinkedIn?

On Twitter, I converse with my community of fellow designers, friends, vendors, and media outlets. On Facebook, I tend to chat more with potential clients. I used LinkedIn more when I was in the corporate world versus now as an entrepreneur.

Do you consider yourself a journalist?

No.

What do you do when you are not blogging?

I blog for my business. When I am not blogging, I’m working on design projects and writing articles for a popular interior design website.

Some of your favorite bloggers are …

Janell Beals (www.isabellaandmaxrooms.blogspot.com)

Brian Patrick Flynn (www.decordemon.com)

Nicole Gibbons (www.sohautestyle.com)

Name a blogging tool that you can’t live without?

I adore Photoshop.
