Debra Lee, the chairman and CEO of BET, has spent years building the network into a cable television powerhouse, now Lee will use her considerable business skills to aid President Obama as one of the latest appointees to his management advisory board.
According to hollywoodreporter.com, the board was established is comprised of successful leaders from various industries.
The board’s mission is to provide advice on how to implement the best business practices on matters concerning federal government management and operation while focusing on issues such as productivity, application of technology and customer service.
Although the news of Lee’s new job may come as a surprise to many, her resume speaks volumes about her qualifications for the job.
Lee has spent the last 25 years working her way up the ranks at BET. A former D.C. lawyer, Lee joined BET in 1986 as the vice president of general counsel. Lee replaced BET founder, Robert L. Johnson, as the chairman and CEO of the network in 2005.
