‘Not a Suicide’; Black Man in Greenwood, Miss., Lynched by Racists

Frederick Jermaine Carter’s lifeless body was found dangling from an oak tree in Greenwood, Mississippi on Dec. 3, 2010. With a rope tied tightly around his neck, Carter’s head slumped to his left shoulder.

According to reports, Carter, 26, was painting a home with his stepfather in Greenwood when his stepfather left to get more tools. Carter, who suffered from mental illness, wandered off and was later found dead.

Members of the predominately white town of Greenwood suggested that his death was a suicide. The town’s sheriff said that Carter likely put a table near the tree, tied a rope on a limb, placed the rope around his neck and kicked the table after standing on it.

However, Mississippi State Medical Examiner, Dr. Adel Shaker, ruled that Carter’s death was not a suicide.

Although a black family resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., the evil consequences  of racism remain prevalent in America.  It’s important that both black and white Americans  hold the F.B.I. and U.S. Justice Department accountable for finding Carter’s killers.

In 1955, Emmett Till was murdered 10 miles north of Greenwood. –a.r.

In my opinion, I’m glad that they posted the picture of this because whether we want to accept it or like it or not, this still exist..and until it fully is exposed and laws made that this will not be tolerable whatsoever, it will continue, and let alone the people in the woods that we don’t see. Hate I know exist..but goodness…come on now…

Government officials need to stop allowing Europeans to escape justice for a racist murder committed in Greenwood Mississippi. This states has always known to be one of the racist states, inside the united States, and it shameless that law enforcement are liars against this young African male murder; avoiding an investigation that is do to this Africans male. If a European male were hung, police officials would have bought someone to justice, even if, a lie need be for a conviction. I hope that the NAACP is working respectfully to bring this racist European to the deaf chambers for his callous behavior.

Many thx to Rolling out for sharing this under-reported lynching.
I wish to point out that, although provocative, this article has a glaring inaccuracy.
The 2000 census states that Greenwood, Mississippi population was as follows:
“The racial makeup of the city was 32.82% White, 65.36% Black, 0.11% Native American, 0.91% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.03% of the population.” source:

What are these 65.36% blacks doing about this. What ever happened to majority rules?

Thanks to all responsible for making this known to the public. I normally watch, and read the news daily but had not seen or heard about this incident. Maybe now others will see this and take a real hard look at the extent to which racism still exists, maybe some will even come out of denial and this man’s loss of life will not have been in vain.

If you would read The Final Call Newspaper you would have known about this IN DECEMBER, not March of the next year.

Who said this was done by racists? Are there facts that support that? Why did the stepfather leave a mentally ill person alone? That doesn’t make sense….

This is the most disturbing story I have ever read, in my opinion. Racism is a disgusting act in our lives as Americans. We fought wars to stop this.Obviously Greenwood hasn’t got the message that the civil war was won by the north, and Martin Luther King{who gave up his life for it} freed the oppressed black american and helped to restore their rights to the same for ALL Americans. Im so ashamed that any American should violate this right we worked so hard to destroy.. Its a hate crime that should no longer be tolerated by ANY AMERICAN FROM ANY COMMUNITY ! The decent people of Greenwood need to fire their sheriff and find the killer or killers of this poor man. Let this be the LAST crime committed out of hate to the black race.I am 63 and white. I grew up in New York. As a northerner I grew up with NO hatred to black people, because it was never tolerated in New York. It was a melting pot of all colors and races. We got along great with all our neighbors and realized everyone had a lot to offer their communities. We weeded out the trouble makers black, white, yellow, brown or red. The community of Greenwood need to do that, and it sounds like its so embedded that they need to start with their leaders and law enforcers. Good luck Greenwood, the eyes of America are on you now and we wont tolerate it . You are an embarrassment to your fellow Americans. Solve this murder and end oppression in your back yard.
