After delivering the genre-bending album F.A.M.E. earlier this month, singer Chris Brown seems intent on pushing the musical envelope even further after reports surfaced that he’s collaborating with Sri Lankan rapper-singer M.I.A.
Brown announced the unlikely collaboration via his Twitter page last Friday (April 15), gushing about his excitement over the studio session, which was also attended by hit producer Polow Da Don.
“Was in the studio with the incredible M.I.A. and Polow,” he wrote. “Amazing artist[s]! Real talent!”
Polow also tweeted about the collaboration, explaining that the session was a dream gig for him.
“IN THE LAB WIT THE GREAT @chrisbrown AND THE INCREDIBLE @_M_I_A_ THANK YOU DEAR LORD!” wrote Polow, adding, “I’ve waited on this moment my whole career … I feel this song in my soul!”
Choosing not to publicize any assumed excitement, M.I.A. simply tweeted that she was “at the studio shootin hoops with boys.”
Although it’s still unclear exactly where Brown and M.I.A.’s new music will end up, it’s possible that fans will be able to hear the new material on a soon-to-be-released M.I.A. project.
According to billboard.com, Niles “Cyrano” Hollowell-Dhar, one-half of California production duo the Cataracs, who have recently logged studio time in L.A. with the Sri Lankan artist, explained that he believes M.I.A. is “working on a mixtape, and she wants it to be like an album.”
“I think she’s really going f—— H.A.M. on this. She’s not pulling any punches,” added Hollowell-Dhar, who has heard rough mixes of other songs from the upcoming project, which will include production from Swizz Beatz.
