Tami Attends Container Gardening Class at Pike Nursery on Earth Day

On Saturday, which was Earth Day, I ventured out to Pike Nursery to learn about container gardening. I find gardening to be relaxing, but I’m the first to admit that I don’t have a green thumb. I’m running around too much to really take care of plants, but I do like flowers and wanted to learn how I could spruce up my porch area.

Pike Nursery hosted a free spring seminar on container gardens at all their store locations, and it was very informative. They educated me on simple steps to choosing the right plants and assembling a container garden to hold “thriller, filler and spiller” plants. I brought in my own containers from my porch area and got right to work. I asked lots of questions, and the gardening expert asked me what kind of sunlight did my front porch have.

My porch is sunny, but it’s not direct sun. So, he suggested some plants that would do well in that kind of sunlight. I filled my containers with annuals and perennials. I was picking up all sorts of pink flowers, but, after trying to arrange them, I put some back and started all over again [laughing]. I think the plants I finally arranged in the pots came out well, and I would like to thank Pike Nursery for the handy-dandy gardening class! –tammie reed
