On October 6, 2010, Dominic L. Holt-Reid, 28, pulled a gun on his pregnant girlfriend and forced her to drive to an abortion clinic. Holt-Reid was incensed that the woman did not go through with an abortion the day before. The couple share a 5-year old son. After dropping off the 5-year old, Holt-Reid pulled a gun from the glove compartment and forced the woman to drive to an abortion clinic on East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. The woman passed a note to a staff member at the clinic and the police were alerted. She was unharmed.
According to TV-10 News in central Ohio, Holt-Reid originally pled not guilty when charged last October in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and was held on $350,000 bond. The charge was attempted murder for trying to force his girlfriend at gunpoint to have an abortion. He also faced charges for kidnapping and carrying a concealed weapon. Described as a college student and single father of six children, Holt-Reid was represented by a public defender.
On April 28, Holt-Reid pleaded guilty to attempted murder, weapons and abduction charges. Holt-Reid faces up to 20 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. He is scheduled to appear in court again in June.
