DJ Quik Discusses Being a Suspect in Notorious B.I.G.’s Murder

Last month, FBI files related to the investigation of the Notorious B.I.G. were released to public and now one of the early suspects in the murder case, veteran rapper DJ Quik is opening up about the investigation and why he feels the feds are trying to pull a fast one.

In a recent interview with hiphopdx.com, DJ Quik recalls being under the watchful eye of the LAPD during the intial stage of the investigation.

“Just because I was there at that [VIBE] party [with Biggie before the shooting], they tapped my phones, found out my accountant’s number and went and posted up and waited for me at my accountant’s office to pick me up for questioning,” recalled Quik. “And it was only because I owned a ’95 [Chevy] Impala [SS] that was black cherry colored like the one that was used supposedly in the shooting — which was probably black, mine was burgundy, but at night they look identical in color.”

As Quik further explains, the LAPD’s inquiries concerning his assumed involvement in the murder were unfounded and he was able to clear his name by simply telling the truth.

“When they came to my accountant’s [office] to come get me, I ended up calling my lawyer and I told him what was going on,” continued Quik regarding his ordeal as murder suspect. “So he called the Parker Center and arranged for me to go up there and talk to ‘em, instead of them gafflin’ me up and making a scene. So I went down there and told ‘em everything I knew, everything I saw. And after I did that the burden was off. ‘Cause it was rumors in the street that I did that s—. How am I gonna kill Biggie Smalls when I like him? Who does that?!”

Strangely enough, although the LAPD questioned Quik about his ownership of the same make and model car involved in the drive-by shooting of Biggie, police officials neglected to question then-fellow LAPD officer David Mack. Mack, also owned an impala of the same make and model as the suspect car and has been long suspected by Russel Pool, the lead detective on the case, as the man responsible for the assassination.

As far as Quik is concerned, he feels that the FBI knows who killed Notorious B.I.G. but are choosing to leave his murder unsolved.

What do you think of Quik’s comments on the murder investigation of Notorious B.I.G.?
