President Barack Obama’s “one for the home team,” which elicited congrats from even the usual GOP Obama bashers and temporary unity, has now sparked furious debate.
As a typically divided nation, there are some things we can agree on, such as the “mission accomplished” in finding and ending the life of the most-hated al Qaida-connected terrorist, Osama bin Laden. But now, it’s back to the basics, as the celebration has turned to the nation being divided on whether or not President Obama should authorize release of the gruesome images of bin Laden in death to the media.
Osama bin Laden’s body was buried at sea, in accordance with the Obama administration’s interpretation of Islamic burial practices and traditions, but those affected as well as those we can safely call voyeurs, want proof that he’s dead. U.S. officials say the body was confirmed as bin Laden’s through DNA comparison to that of his sister’s, who previously died of cancer, but many aren’t buying it.
The condition of bin Laden’s body has been described as “the upper regions of his head being badly mutilated by the two bullets that pierced him to the left of the bridge of his nose.” Do we really want to see that plastered all over websites and television screens? State your opinion via our poll.
