Days after the birth of their twins and teasing fans with guessing games about the babies’ names on Twitter, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have finally revealed the names of their newborn twins, Monroe Cannon and Moroccan Scott Cannon.
The news came yesterday via Carey’s blog, mariahcarey.com, where the couple explained the origins of their children’s names. Son, Moroccan Scott, whose nickname is “Roc,” is named after the top floor of Carey’s New York City apartment, which is called the Moroccan room because of its décor, and it is also where Cannon proposed to Carey in 2008.
Moroccan’s middle name comes from his father, whose middle name is also Scott, which is also his paternal grandmother’s maiden name.
Moroccan Scott’s sister, Monroe, is named after Carey’s idol, Marilyn Monroe. According to a representative for the couple, Carey and Cannon chose not to give Monroe a middle name because Carey herself doesn’t have one.
Although the names may seem a bit bizarre, fans shouldn’t be that surprised considering the couple’s out of this world love story. After meeting on the set of her video, the pair wed in April 2008 after an extremely brief two-month courtship and instead of throwing a grandiose Hollywood wedding, the couple opted for a small, intimate ceremony.
Cindi Berger, a representative for Carey, told news channel CNN, “It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”
