Several of the top artists in hip-hop and R&B received nominations for the 2011 BET Awards. Chris Brown led the way with six nominations and Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake also received multiple nominations.
Other notable artists who were nominated include Diddy-Dirty Money (best group); B.o.B (best male hip-hop); and Wiz Khalifa (best new artist).
Although several of the most productive artists of 2011 were nominated, Trina and Keyshia Cole expressed their displeasure over being snubbed by BET.
Cole released Calling All Hearts in 2010, but she was not nominated for best female R&B artist. Trina released an album in 2010 and a mixtape in 2011. However, less accomplished female rappers, such as LoLa Monroe, Cymphonique and Diamond, received nominations.
The BET Awards show is slated to air live on Sunday, June 26. –amir shaw
