As a celebrity spokesmodel model for CoverGirl with her line of cosmetics, the CoverGirl Queen collection, Queen Latifah has already made a name for herself in the beauty industry. Now the mogul is setting her sights on the world of fashion with a new clothing line for HSN, The Queen Collection.
According to people.com, this is Latifah’s second attempt at a fashion line, having seen her previous effort flounder some time ago. But as Latifah explains, her passion for fashion helped to fuel her drive to start the new collection, which will cater to women size 2-24.
“I’m so excited about it,” Latifah tells PEOPLE. “This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I’ve been offered a lot of deals for clothing lines and actually started one that didn’t quite get off the ground but this is like a full circle moment for me.”
Although her collection will feature a broad range of clothing and accessories, including scarves and hair extensions, what Latifah believes will become the hot item of her collection are her handbags, which she herself is admittedly drooling over.
“I have a bag fetish. I’ll have on sweatpants and a $3,000 purse. I don’t deny myself, bags are the one thing I’ll allow myself to splurge on,” explained Latifah. “I think the bag line is going to be really good. It’s versatile, so it’s not going to look like the same bag from one collection to the next. There’s something for everyone, especially those who want to look like a queen. I definitely want to be able to rock my bag. I figured, if I can rock it, why shouldn’t other people be able to?”
The Queen Collection will be available on HSN and hsn.com beginning Aug. 27.
